the absurdity of gpa

GPA is a terrible measure of performance in college. It is not indicative of anything nor does it encourage what should be encouraged. It encourages students to take easy classes so that they can get their A and in doing so boost their GPA. Also it gives no indication as to how much the student has learned in a class. Professors and school admins are always complaining about how students are too concerned about GPAs. Well sadly enough that is what is encouraged in today's society. Companies are encouraging high GPAs, scholarships encourage it, grad schools encourage it, and etc. So modern day society is encouraging a high GPA which encourages students to change their behaviors. It makes them more concerned about their GPA and getting "A's" than they are about learning the material. This encourages them to take easier professors, easier classes, etc. In the end, students have actually learned less and been challenged less but have supposedly done better in school. What a broken system we have...

enjoy the ride

I received this in an email. It is so true and so refreshing. I love life and my grandpa always inspired me to be optimistic about it. If there's one thing I've learned in my 21 years on this earth, it is that life is whatever you make it. My grandpa always said life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react to it. So here's to making life the all it can be! Click on the title for the link to the video/slideshow and enjoy.

a sad truth...

Why is it so easy for us to fall away from God with so little effort. In fact it really doesn't even take any effort at all. I really need to start putting forth more of a conscious effort for God.
